Families First Coronavirus Response Act

Dear Faculty and Staff,

Congress enacted The Families First Coronavirus Response Act (FFCRA) which allows for paid leave for employees who are unable to work or telework due to various circumstances surrounding COVID-19.

Beginning April 2, 2020, all employees (faculty, staff, student employees, temporary employees, work-study employees, GRAs and GTAs) regardless of length of employment with the university, are eligible for up to two weeks of paid leave at up to 100 percent of their regular pay rate (80 hours for full-time, pro-rated based on assignment for part-time employees) for the following qualifying reasons:

In addition to the scenarios outlined above, employees (faculty, staff, student employees, temporary employees, work- study employees, GRAs and GTAs) may be eligible for up to two weeks of paid leave at up to 2/3 their regular rate of pay for additional situations related to COVID-19. Employees have the opportunity to elect to use their accrued paid leave (if applicable) for the remaining 1/3 pay.

Beyond these first two weeks, employees may use their appropriate accrued paid leave (if applicable) for all of the above reasons except if the employee is caring for a child in which the school or place of care of the child has been closed. In this circumstance, the employee will continue at up to the 2/3 rate of pay and may use their accrued leave (if applicable) to supplement the other 1/3. To be eligible for the continued pay at up to 2/3 the regular rate, the employee must have worked for the university for at least 30 days.
