Caring for the Langston University Pride

Dear Langston University family,

Langston University cares for its pride - our students, faculty, staff, alumni, and friends all around the world that make up the Langston family. Lions everywhere are caring for our loved ones, our communities, and for the world as we navigate these unprecedented circumstances together.

We have taken aggressive measures to mitigate the spread of COVID-19 to our campuses. Our dedicated faculty, staff, and students have embraced the challenge with grace, flexibility, and innovation as we all adapt to a new way of operating. Our collective response affirms the values at the core of our University; that of unwavering loyalty and a mission to serve.

Langston University, like many historically black colleges around the country, has a reputation for cultivating a sense of family on its campuses and within those we serve. No one could have predicted the impact COVID-19 would have on our society, but one thing is certain and that is the resiliency of our community. We have faced adversity together in the past. Taking care of one another is what Lions do best, and it’s how we intend to get through this challenging time.

I want to recognize and express my gratitude to our Langston University students and alumni who are on the front lines of this pandemic. The healthcare providers, food service professionals, first responders, retailers, non-profit partners and others who are committed to serving in this time of great need.

Our community has shown tremendous courage and creativity throughout a time of uncertainty and transition. Langston University is profoundly grateful for the resilient spirit demonstrated by Lions everywhere. Together, we will overcome this challenge and emerge stronger and more innovative than ever before.

Take care and be well.

Sincerely,

Kent J. Smith Jr., Ph.D.
