Math and Science Academy (For High School Sophomores, Juniors & Seniors)

This academy will focus on improving Students’ appreciation for Math and Science curricula and careers. As an academy student, you will experience cutting edge technologies that support hands-on activities and innovative teaching and learning. Your classes and experiments will provide you with intense, positive experience in mathematics, chemistry, biology, and Preparation for Success. You’ll witness mathematicians, engineers, and scientists in action at the Langston University Aquatic Center, the Goat Research Center, and Tinker Air force Base. You will become a member of our Academy Digital Village, and on-line Network of Academy alums currently in STEM graduate programs or careers. You will focus on ACT preparation as well as other college preparatory and entry requirements. You will collaborate with other academy students to solve the “Who Done It” mystery. Langston University Upward Bound Summer Academy The Langston University Upward Bound Program is a federally funded year around college preparatory program. It is designed for 9th-12th grade students who will be the first in their family to graduate from college or who meet specific income guidelines. Students must attend one of the following schools: Centennial, Coyle, Douglass, Guthrie, John Marshall, Millwood, NE Academy, or Star Spencer. During the academic year students will attend weekly tutoring sessions, ACT Prep workshops, and a monthly Saturday meeting held on the Langston University main campus. During the 4-week Summer Academy students live residentially in the dormitories; engage in high school curriculum on campus; interact with their high school peers; utilize college resources; learn about career and academic planning; and enrich themselves culturally through the programs many offerings. Additionally, students will develop, implement, and produce a talent show, resulting in the receipt of various awards at the Annual Awards Ceremony that will take place at the culmination of the Summer Academy. Langston University National Summer Transportation Institute The Langston University Summer Transportation Institute (LUSTI) is part of the National Summer Transportation Institute (NSTI), sponsored by the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA). LUSTI is funded by FHWA, Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), Federal Railroad Administration (FRA), the Oklahoma Department of Transportation (ODOT), Oklahoma Trucking Association, Langston University (LU), and many transportation companies to provide high school and junior high school students an opportunity to learn about the transportation industry and to strengthen and increase participation of Minority Institutions of Higher Learning in federal programs.
