School of Business
Message from the Dean
On behalf of the faculty, staff and your fellow students, I am pleased to welcome you to Langston University and to the School of Business. When you made Langston your University of choice, you took the first step in ensuring your place among the illustrious sons and daughters of this great institution. When you chose to study in the School of Business, you made your first major investment decision. The study of Business--accounting, economics, finance, financial economics, management information systems, or organization management, carries with it challenges and rewards. Perhaps you have chosen to major in computer and information sciences; this program is also in the School of Business. In either case, you have made a wise investment. It is quite likely that you have not yet decided on your specific major. Don’t worry. Your academic and faculty advisers will be able to assist you to make the right decision, after you have discussed with them your goals and aspirations. We are committed to make your tenure here at Langston University and in the School of Business as pleasant as possible. After you have been here for two or more years, I encourage you to feel free to approach any faculty in your area of studies to discuss your career goals or plans for further studies beyond the baccalaureate degree. This will permit you to plan your program of studies proactively. Life at Langston University and in the School of Business is not dull. There are a number of extracurricular activities that you may want to participate in, depending on your interests. There are organizations, such as Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE), which is promotes entrepreneurship; the National Association of Black Accountants (NABA), committed to nurturing potential accountants and financial professionals, and the promotion of accounting profession among African Americans. There is the Computer Science Club and our Chapter of Phi Beta Lambda (for all business students). Delta Mu Delta is an international honors society in business. Membership in Delta Mu Delta is based on academic performance. I strongly encourage you to make full use of every tangible and intangible resource available on campus. These resources are there for you, the student. You should have a copy of the Student Handbook which has been prepared to help you in planning your studies here in the School of Business. I am confident that you will find your experiences in the School of Business in the years to come very rewarding. I encourage you to visit your Dean’s office and meet with me whenever you can do so.
